That's cool! I'd never seen the whole plant. It almost looks like a thistle...

Daniela, they actually are a giant thistle, and very prickly. I hate weeding around it. But it will be worth it to introduce my kids to artichokes in Malawi.

i have NEVER seen one (except at HEB). positively fascinating and YUMMY!!! i love, love, love artichokes steamed with some great creamy sauce. no one else really loves them so that's super cuz i don't have to share. ;o)

Yum!! Lucky you! Enjoy :) Artichokes are not something I've ever grown... were they pretty easy (except the weeding!). Thistles are tough plants! We just had a delivery pizza with artichoke, and I had to stop my daughter from stealing the toppings! We taught them about artichokes from when they were very young and before the remembered the name of it, they'd ask for the vegetable 'you bite the leaves' :)
