Wordless Wednesday- Remember

This Table set for one is small, symbolizing the frailty of one prisoner alone against his oppressors.
Remember!
The Tablecloth is white, symbolizing the purity of their intentions to respond to their country's call to arms.
Remember!
The single Red Rose displayed in a vase reminds us of the families and loved ones of our comrades-in-arms
who keep the faith awaiting their return.
Remember!
The Red Ribbon tied so prominently on the vase is reminiscent of the red ribbon worn upon the lapel and breasts of thousands who bear witness to their unyielding determination to demand a proper accounting of our missing.
Remember!
The Candle, the candle is lit, symbolizing the upward reach of their unconquerable spirit.
Remember!
A Slice of Lemon is on the bread plate to remind us of their bitter fate.
Remember!
There is Salt upon the bread plate, symbolic of the families tears as they wait.
Remember!
The Bible represents the strength gained through faith to sustain those lost from our country, founded as one nation under God.
Remember!
The Glass is inverted. They cannot toast with us this night.
Remember!
The Chair, the chair is empty. They are not here.
Remember!
All of you who served with them and called them comrades, who depended upon their might and aid, and
relied upon them, for surely, they have not forsaken you.
Remember!
Until the day they come home, Remember!

This is very interesting, Shannon. It's "Day of Remembrance for Truth and Justice" in Argentina today. This holiday was created last year to commemorate the 30,000 people that were killed or disappeared during the Argentine Dictatorship, though.

Does your post relate to a holiday as well?

No it isn't a holiday, at military balls there is always some sort of remembrance ceremony for their fallen or missing comrades. At the SeaBee BAll on Saturday (Navy Construction Battalion--CBs or SeaBees) this took the form of the Table For One. The Poem following the picture was read aloud as part of the ceremonies. This is the reason I always wear waterproof mascara to these things. The table remained throughout evening.

Oh, how incredibly, tragically sad.

Word to the wise, when you go to the ball and really you MUST GO wear WATERPROOF MASCARA! There is always a ceremony of remembrance, a well there should be. The one at the Marine Ball was so much worse than this one, words fail me but you can see for yourself by going to my post on Dec 3rd but first go grab some kleenex.
